Blogging For Dollars – 5 Techniques you can use to monetize your Blog
Posted by: admin In: SEO Tutorials
I will cover this topic in two parts each part consisting of 5 techniques. Most people who are interested in blogging or who own blogs usually don’t utilize their blog to its full potential. As a blogger you have an opportunity not only to provide valuable information but to make money off the information that you provide. Adding value to your blog is imperative since it not only increases traffic but also establishes your credibility.
Once you have used my traffic enhancing techniques that I have discussed in earlier blog posts you can now begin to earn money of your blogging efforts. For many of the techniques I will discuss its imperative that you know a bit about word press which is one of the most popular blogging platforms around.
Technique no. 1 – Advertising
Most bloggers already know what online advertising is and for those who don’t here is a brief overview of what online advertising is. There are two primarily types of online advertising a. PPC or Pay per click advertising and b. CPM or Cost per mileage.
A. PPC – Pay Per Click Advertising: Google is probably the most famous and well known for this form of advertising. Google’s Ad sense makes it easy for people to place advertisements on their blogs and websites. All you need to do to get started is to sign up for Google’s ad sense account and copy and paste the code that Google provides you with to your website. For bloggers who are running wordpress they can just a Google ad sense plug-in which simplifies the whole process down to just a few clicks. The problem with Google ad sense is it wont really make you serious money. The reason this is so is because Google will only pay you if a visitor to your website clicks on an ad. This is in my experience is really difficult as the CTR or Click through rate for most websites is around 0.5% which means that if you are lucky you will just earn a few dollars a month.
B. CPM or Cost per mileage: Now this is where the real advertising revenue lies but how you use and place CPM adverts really makes a difference. When you purchase an ad for let’s say 10 CPM and you are getting paid $1 per CPM it really means that you are getting paid $1 every 1000 times your page is viewed. For High traffic blogs this could mean even $2000 every month depending on the types of advertising they place.
Technique no. 2 – Banner Advertising
The most popular banner formats on the web are the 728×90, 120×600, 300×250 and the 125×125.
This is a very lucrative way of earning money via your blog but it requires skill and lots of traffic. Most websites wont bother to advertise on your website if you have lower than a PR3 or 4 (Google page rank). This can be a bit discriminating but most advertisers are trying to target the most people possible and it only makes sense that you use my traffic building techniques to achieve your goal. You will also need to manage the sales process as well as workout payment methods.
The most famous formats for banner ads are 728×90, 120×600, 300×250 and the 125×125.
Technique no. 3 – Make money recommending other people’s products
This form of adverting on the web is called affiliate advertising. It is a very popular form of making money as you recommend an affiliate’s products to your visitors and if they purchase or use the product you are marketing the affiliate gives you a commission. This form of advertising is also known as CPA or cost per action.
You can join a number of affiliate market places and if you are using wordpress you can even download and install an affiliate plug-in.
Technique no. 4 – Charge for your content
You might probably recall that there are a few websites / blogs that charge in order for you to access some of their content. For instance SEOMoz is a very popular blog that charges for its premium content. This blog is dedicated towards giving advice on a wide range of SEO topics. For $48 dollars a month you can gain access to exclusive tools and material.
However before you start charging for your content you need to be able to first establish a solid PR rank which means you need to be able to pull in traffic by providing valuable content and then later charge them for other high quality content. However I would not recommend this form of monetization for new bloggers.
Technique no.5 – Insert a paid survey / poll
Most new bloggers don’t really know much about paid surveys. Did you know that there are a fair number of websites out there that generate a fair amount of revenue via paid surveys? The trick is to insert a paid survey or poll that really asks a question that no one can resist. I personally prefer inserting polls relating to the niche of my blog.
You can sign-up with a website such as Vizu Answers and start inserting paid polls in to your blog. There are many people that can’t resist taking a poll so expect a decent click through rate.
