Many people have asked me how I deal with spam comments on my blogs. The truth is that there is no one way to deal with spam however I do use a two tier approach to spam.
You probably wont see this on my blog but the first thing you should do to avoid spam comments is to enable the ‘nofollow’ link on your blog. The reason I recommend this is that most spammers will come on to a blog and only post a comment if the ‘nofollow’ option is disabled with means that search engines will automatically rank their website as credible as their link exists on your website.
The reason that I have the ‘nofollow’ option disabled is because I really want people to come here and spam my blog with comments. However I do closely moderate my blog just so that I don’t have Viagra links as well as porn links on my blog. Even though you do have the ‘nofollow’ link enabled you need to closely look at each comment and moderate it accordingly.
Some times spam comments will look like this “Great blog some like mine www.xyz.com” these are the kinds of comments you should delete immediately. You shouldn’t be hungry for comments rather you should be hungry and watch out for relevant comments which will help your blog grow.
People love installing a wordpress plug in to get moderate their comments but this always doesn’t turn out very well especially if you have your plug in running on autopilot. Make sure that you dont give a plugin complete control of your blog. The whole point of a blog is for you to take care of it and help it grow.
The best seo you can do for your blog is to post good and original content. Steer clear of inserting keywords and keeping an eye out on keyword density if your information is really useful you will get visitors to your blog.
